Plz remind me that it'll get better

Hello Ladies, I seem to be stuck in a catch 22 situation here :)

My almost 17 month old is nursing away to glory in the night time (can go up to 6 times) and is absolutely refusing to drink any milk during the day, we have tried EBM, Cow's milk, goat's milk, almond milk (I know other milk is not absolutely necessary, but was trying to see if that will reduce his nightime sessions). He uses his straw cup absolutely fine and can drink from a regular cup with a little assistance. It is just something to do with milk. One sip with milk he throws the straw cup.

I am a full time working mom and still pump twice a day and thinking of HUTH if Anish is totally set on reverse cycling on me.(but still scared about HUTH).

At this point, I am not trying to get him to STTN, though it would be nice, but how do I make him drink milk during the day time. I am not around to nurse him and even during the week ends if I offer, he insists on playing rather than nursing.

One more interesting twist was that I was away on-call last week for a couple of days and DH had given EBM in straw cup during the night time, it looks like Anish sat up took a sip or two from straw cup and fell asleep by himself and NEVER woke up the entire night.

So do I try the straw cup technique again ? and what if he totally stops to take any milk at night time and still wouldn't take anything during the day time too ?

I am just a little confused. If not any advice atleast tell me that the frequent night nursing is just a phase :)

It sounds like he's reverse cycling - not just for the milk part, but maybe for some reconnection too (if you're away at work all day).

He may not drink milk for a while, from a cup, but you could try yogurt, cheeses, etc. and get some dairy in him that way.

(I know other milk is not absolutely necessary,

Just to be clear (and for lurkers), it's not necessary at all if he is nursing more than 3-4x a day, which he definitely is :) http://www.kellymom.com/nutrition/solids/toddler-foods.html

ITA with Paula that it sounds like he's just trying

Thank you Paula and Theresa! Yes, he does eat yogurt cheese etc with no problems and yes during day time he doesn't take EBM in a straw cup, regular cup, regular cup with a straw.

Yesterday we tried the straw cup when I was there during the night time routine and he took it with no issues and did not ask to nurse at all, but woke up like a clock work every 3 hrs and wanted milk. Oh well! he will stop it whenever he is ready.
