Hi. I have nursed my son exclusively until I got my first period, which was 2 weeks after he turned one, and after that I got my periods late, about 1-2 weeks late, all the time, until I got pregnant, 3 months later. Now I am nursing my daughter, she is almost 14 months, and I have still had no periods, but she still nurses at night, and during the daytime. This is normal, and healthy, so I'd say enjoy this time. The more you nurse, the more likely you will delay the return of your menstrual cycle, and once you do get your period, you can have erratic cycles, until you get pregnant. Every women is different.

There is a WIDE range of "normal" cycles when BF. Some moms get AF at 3 months (even if BF exclusively), others may not get AF until 2 years or later. When AF does return it may be be irregular for a while or it may be regular as clock work. IT might be lighter or heavier. This can also be different with each baby.

I know that really does not answer your question.......

We do know that Bf does not interfere with pregnancy tests.

We also know that if AF has not returned, baby is under 6 months old AND baby is EXCLUSIVELY BF then BF is a good from of birth control. If ANY of those are not met (and in your case baby is over six months and AF has returned) and you do not want to risk pregnancy then you should be using birth control (natural family planning, condoms, mini-pill etc).

HTH! Follow up with any questions.
