Sick 10-mo DD causing low supply!

Hello,

My 10 month old DD has been doing just fine BFing and has been nursing 3x/day and once at night. (I offer more and have reduced solids, but that's what she seems to want to do.) She has had a cold for the last 3 days and has had a hard time BFing - she wont BF while sitting or standing. Needless to say, my supply seems to be spiraling downward. I would like to continue BFing her in to the next year, as I did with my son, but am concerned that I may not be able to. She has milk and soy allergies anyway, so formula would be not be wise, regardless. What can I do to maintain/increase supply? Any hints or suggestions to remedy the situation? I am getting a bit stressed and depressed over this :-(

TIA,
Roxane

{{hugs}} Rest assured that if you can get your DD through her cold that she should in all likelihood return to her old nursing pattern and you should be able to continue BFing past a year. Since you say that she won't nurse while sitting or standing, have you tried nursing lying down?

Now in terms of your milk supply possibly dwindling, the following link has some recommendations for how to increase your milk supply: http://www.kellymom.com/bf/supply/low-supply.html

If she's not nursing well, can you throw in a few pumping sessions during the day just to maintain supply?

Thanks! Things had been going fine so I completely forgot about Kellymom. Also, lying down is the worst position for her because her nose is so stopped up. Uggh. I guess we'll just have to power through it.

Sigh, I guess I'll just have to do it. It's just so hard to find time when I am also dealing with an energetic 3-year-old. Thanks.
