DD is almost 8 months old and we've been in the distractable nurser phase for a while. Since it started she's eaten for shorter durations. I thought it would pass, but it hasnt after 2 months so I think this is our new "normal". And I dont think she's become more efficient because when I weigh her at the BF support group she is only taking 2.5 ounces. (She used to regularly take 110grams or almost 4 ounces)
She also is not eating any more frequently, so she isn't making up the calories that way. I'm starting to worry if she's getting enough. She did start solids around 6 months, but we only do one meal per day and it's always AFTER nursing, and only about 2 ounces of a fruit or veggie, so not very much.
I know the signs to look for are diapers and weight gain. She does have good diaper output- about 5 wets per day. But her weight gain is trickier. She was a 32 week preemie and she's never been a big gainer. She'll gain a few ounces some weeks and some weeks nothing at all. Thats been her pattern, so the doc has been ok with it, though it always makes me nervous. Shes full of fat rolls and making developmental milestones on her adjusted schedule so she is okay on that front.
I dont know, should I be concerned that she isn't taking as much? I've tried to relatch her after she pops off and sometimes she'll eat another minute or two, and sometimes she bites (which I interpret as not being interested in eating).
Any feedback, is this okay?
