When DD was about 5.5 months old i got eczema on my areola. I have been able to keep that from getting out of control, however now my whole boob is itchy!! even when there isnt eczema around. it is like an itch i cant scratch. I cant tell if it is deep or on the skin, but it is horrible. i have been reading online and a lot of women have it, but only when they are actually nursing. Mine doesnt itch when she is nursing, mainly when she *isnt* nursing.

Any thoughts?? (i am not on any new medications so that isnt why i am itching)

If there's no underlying issue and you really are just itchy, try expressing some breastmilk and putting it on your breast a few times a day. It works for me. :)

No pain. It is pink and i guess it is shiny (when there is no eczema). I would definitely go to the doctor but we currently dont have insurance, so it isnt an option unless i have to. My mom did ask me (and i dont know why, not sure if it is relevant to this) if she is emptying my breast when nursing. (I have had mastitis and it was from my nursing tank being too tight-i know this is not that but i also dont know what other things it can cause if she isnt emptying it). I really dont know if she does empty it. My dr told me before that if i pump and get milk then it is not empty...i dont pump so its more of a guess to me. It is definitely not full anymore. There is a difference. She eats alot sometimes but she plays around too. Like i nurse her before i put her to bed (only a tiny snack). definitely isnt emptying it. other times she eats a lot. So no, she isnt emptying it...but i dont no if that has anything to do with them being itchy. I have never had thrush but i dont think this is it.

Also, I used to have a major pain while my breasts were *refilling*, after nursing. It was awful. I was thinking tonight, i wonder if instead of pain, it is not itching. Maybe that means my milk is coming back in?

Hmmmmm..... is there any chance it could be thrush? Is your areola skin pink and shiny? Are you having pain while nursing at all?
