I have been trying to breastfeed for about six weeks now. The problems I have ran into are driving me crazy. First the latching which was so easy at the hospital my baby latched first time everytime until my milk came in. I went to a latchtation consultant and she gave me a nipple gaurd to help until my boobs went down. Well my baby would never take to my nipple again but it did help so if it meant still breastfeeding I kept it up and used it at every feeding. Talk about annoying because you have to wash it after every feeding and it leaks some but I dealt with it for my baby. Now on to my most difficult mountian to climb and still climbing my supple. I know they say every two hours feed well I have been doing that and my feedings last 45mins to and hour. So by the math and time I was literally feeding about every hour and it was exhausting. On top of that I have a 3 year old who also needs me and its stressful when i cant help her until I am done. So I have been eating oat meal twice a day which helps a lot plus I am taking brewers yeast with tons of water. Well my babys weight was just not increasing and thats why i was having to feed so long. So I went to supplementing and it helped a lot. Until now she is refusing the nipple! I am going crazy at times with trying to keep this up. I got a really good pump and started pumping. I have read a lot about pumping only and I dont know if I want to start doing that or to just keep push on and hoping I can stop the supplementing. Its been hard because my husband just wants me to go to formula and I had to with my first and it was way easier then this has been but I think breastfeeding has way more benefits. I just want to know will it get easier? If so when? I just dont know if i can handle feeding every hour for months.

Hang in there! I only have one baby, 13 months as of yesterday. He still breastfeeds regularly. I do understand that having a 3 year old makes everything much more difficult, but breastfeeding is so important. I read your post and am compelled to reply. There could be several reasons to why your LO is not wanting to latch. The taste of some supplements can make a baby turn away. Just curious if you've tried stopping the supplements? You're doing great with the oatmeal! Nature's aid to breast milk. Drinking tons of water is a must. Also, try let down techniques to get yourself flowing, the fatty filled milk doesn't come out right away. Any trouble with weight gain can be helped by the milk with higher fat content. Are you still using the nipple guard? Your LO might do better without it. If you'd like, I can give you some links for increasing breast milk. It's always very handy information. I can understand where you husband is coming from, but sticking this out is the best thing you can do for your baby.
