I know the instructions say to fold the insert in the back for a girl and the front for a boy, so that's how I've been doing it.

I've only got a boy, so I don't have anything to compare to. I would say that if it makes more sense to do it a different way than the instructions say, just do what seems to work and don't worry about the instructions. Worst that is going to happen is that you will decide to go back to the other way later.

You can't really change too frequently. 90 mins to 2 hours for a pee diaper is plenty of time really. I'd keep doing what works and breathe a sigh of relief that you aren't dealing with leaks or crazy rashes or other bad stuff!

I have a 12.5 month old girl and I find that she definitely saturates the front more than the back (flip training pants and pockets but not in fitteds) so I either fold to the front or use the highest rise with no folding. I second that you should go with what works, it's not hurting. The only thing I'm picky about is to use a residue free detergent. Otherwise I go with the flow and not worry about directions too much.
