Part time cloth - recommendations?

I am starting to work on potty training with my one year old. I've used disposables until now (and will likely continue to use them overnight and maybe for naps) but I've read that they can really interfere with the PT process since baby stays too dry. At home I plan to use cloth training pants but need a plan for outings. I think cloth diapers would be a good compromise, catching the mess but allowing DD to feel wet. I would be willing to wash them daily so I think I only need a few diapers. I found an affordable kit: econobum by bum genius that has 3 covers 12 prefolds has anyone used this kit or this brand? Is it fairly easy to use? I've never used cloth but am a quick learner ;-). Does it sound like there is enough to last say 8 hours? Is there something better?
Thanks in advance for reviews/recommendations. Everyone I know is using disposables and waiting until 2 yrs or more to PT so I'm on my own.
Thanks again

I haven't used EconoBum but I use Flip--it's the same cover with different insides.
Thanks for the great tip about the snappies, I'm sure they will come in handy; it will only be a matter of time before my monkey figures out the snaps lol.
I'm so ready to be done with diapers so I'm willing to work hard in the short term to get DD trained. I'm a little worried that pre folds will be hard to get on but DD is impossible to diaper anyhow; how much harder can it be? LOL She manages to make the slip on disposables a pain too. The only thing that's easy are the cloth training pants so I'd rather wash every day then fight those legs any more than I have to.
The other thing I was going to suggest is that you get a wetbag. Planet Wise makes really nice ones. They are really easy and convenient ways to carry around and/or store a wet cloth diaper if you have them. Having diaps sitting in plastic grocery bags doesn't really contain any smell that might arise and leaks pretty easily. Wet bags are really nice even after you are done diapering for carrying things like wet swim suits or clothes that got soggy from playing in the snow for too long....just a suggestion.
So we will see. Maybe get two or three fitted diaps and move to pre folds if we need more. I will get plastic covers separately so we can even use them on training pants at home. I was already eyeing wet bags. They are a must for potty training I think and as you said can be reused as DD grows.
Fitteds are good, or you may check out the Bumgenius Flip organics (I'd stick with natural fibers if you really want her to feel wet).
Totally agree with the suggestion to stick with natural fibers if you want the kid to know when they are wet!
I totally understand the excitement. I think cloth has been really fun. Even when my house is chaotic and messy, my kid's diapers are nicely put away and clean because it doesn't feel like a chore to me. I really do enjoy the washing and folding and putting away and all the fun stuff.
Let us know how it goes.
It was a massive pee in the diaper, the cover got a little damp and I couldn't reuse it right then. I got another cover (bummis super brite i think) to switch out. I'm not crazy about the newspaper fold either so I got a snappi to see how that goes.
I have a question: since I have so few diaps, is it okay to toss in the cotton/polyester training pants as well as regular baby clothes she wets on in the same load?
