My husband and I are expecting our second child in October.  We used disposable diapers only with our other child but are seriously considering cloth for this new little one.  I'm intrigued by the idea, but completely overwhelmed!  What brands do you suggest for cloth diapers?  And how many do I need/should stock up on? Any and all help is appreciated!

Hey,

Congratulations on your new addition who is coming soon!!!  What an exciting time for you and your family.

Cloth diapers are a wonderful option to consider.  In the long run, it is possible to save a lot of money this way depending on what you are looking at and how you treat your dipaers (like clothes, cloth diapers can eventually wear out).

There is another thread on cloth diapering a newborn that you might want to take a look at for some general information.

As far as what brand or type of diaper, it sort of depends on what you are looking for and what your priority is--least expensive, more convenience features, only natural fibers.  You might want to think a little about laundering if you do (or don't ) have the option to use a diaper service.  As I'm sure you have already discovered, there are about a million different options that will work for different folks under different circumstances.

The other thing to think about at some point with cloth diapers is that since you are buying to keep using them, sizing matter.  With disposable, people just buy whatever size they need at the time and then run out and buy a different size later if they need it.  With cloth, you are buying to keep--so size matters.  Was your first child very small or very large?  Did he or she outgrow clothes fast or stay in them for a long time?  This might help you make a decision for a diaper that is more practical for you.  Not that kids from the same family will grow the same way, but it is something to think about.

Let us know what else we can to do help you sort out all this information!!!
