When did/would you buy your CDs?

My husband and I are going to be TTC #1 starting in June this year. Since I already know that I want to CD, I was wondering if anyone had any advice on when I should start acquiring them. To avoid a big expence once I get pregnant, I thought maybe I would buy 1 or 2 diapers a month until the baby is born as a way to build a collection without feeling like we are spending $500 on nice diapers.

I'm not sure who in my family (other than my super supportive mom) would get us CDs as baby gifts, so I know most of the expense is going to be on us.

If you were to CD again from the very beginning, would you have done this? If not, how did you handle collecting CDs?

Thanks!!

I would personally buy the stash all at once to avoid multiple shipping charges, since all of my purchases have been online. Also I purchased prefolds, which are less expensive, and sometimes I received a discount for buying more all at once.

Whatever works best for you! My favorite retailer Abby's Lane does not charge shipping, so you could buy a couple a month that way. If it was me, I'd wait at least until the first trimester is over. I know too many people (including myself) who had early miscarriages, and having a stack of diapers to look at would have been too painful. You could start a baby bank account and set up automatic monthly transfers to help you save, or even keep an envelope of cash that you add to monthly if you don't want to buy the diapers right away.
I spent the first half of my pregnancy reading everything I could find about diapers. Then I got a cloth registry going, and people really did purchase lots of my diaper stash for me.

I bought my stash $50 at a time from Kelly's Closet.

I'd recommend waiting too because the industry just keeps blossoming and holy cow, it's changed so much in the last 2.5 years since I was pregnant and started getting the bug.

Good Luck

I would definitely wait until after 20 weeks pg. It helps if you know the sex of the baby in addition to issues already mentioned. You could start saving $ for diapers. A few hundred bucks would buy a great stash.

Infant size prefolds are so inexpensive you can buy a whole stash plus a few PUL covers for $100. I would just save up and buy them towards the end of the pregnancy.

For more expensive diapers like fitted and wool, if you want those, I like to buy used at diaperswappers (or craigslist). I would just start buying what looks good.

For the big brands they often come cheaper if you buy in quantity so if you know you want lots of AIOs I would buy them that way.
