Need Opinions: Going to 3 pumps day?

I have been EP for almost 3 months - my daugther will be 3 months in 10 days. I am currently 4 times a day (5:30 AM, 12 PM, 5/6PM, & 9/9:30 PM).  When I first started, I pumped 8/7 times a day when I was off work, then 6/5 times when I went back to work about a month ago, and for about a week and half, pumping only 4 times a day because she has started sleeping through the night halft of the time. I have not notice a decrease in my supply, in some cases, it went up!; usually get around 45 to 53 oz. My questions are about going to 3 pumps a day? Thinking of a schedule of 5 AM, 12:30 PM, and 8:30/9 PM?   Wanted some opinions if should or shouldn't? Also, if there is  a notice a huge decrease in my supply and decided to go back to 4 pumps, is it possible to get the supply amont back up?

Thanks,

This is a tough one!  Everyone produces differently, and IME many Mom's do well at 4, but below that, not always the case.  You would notice more supply at each session since there is more elapsed time between, however this can sometimes only last a few weeks, then the decrease starts to happen.  You said you've been doing 4 sessions for a couple weeks now...can you wait it out for another two and see where your supply goes? I know I had alot of success long term at 4x's a day, but dropping below that within a month I started loosing supply.  Unfortunately trial and error are often needed to figure out your own body, you could do very well with 3 sessions!

Yes, you can most definately increase your supply back if needed, at least some supply, IF dropping down another session hurts your supply.  Sometimes it all comes back, sometimes only some of it.  You'd also need to step up the schedule to gain it back again...in most cases anyway only up until you were seeing the supply you were happy with.  Again this is all just based on my experience and what I've read about other women.  Everyone is different and their supply is very different, so sometimes it's trial and error!  GL! I agree that it's going to be a little different for every woman. But, here is my experience. I was also pumping 5-6 times a day until I went back to work last January. I pumped 4x/day for a couple of months, and dropped to 3x in early April. At that point, I was producing about 37-42 oz/day. I stuck to the guideline of aiming for 120 minutes of pumping time a day, so pumped 40 mins/session until October, when my son turned 1. I pumped at roughly 5 am, noon, and 8 pm. Over that time, my supply dropped gradually to about 25-27 oz/day. But it really took the entire 6 months to get there. So, it's possible to do 3 pumps/day and maintain a reasonable supply, especially if you have a freezer stash. You have such a great supply that you might be fine, even if your supply takes a hit. Good luck!
