Congrats on making it to 7 months - it is no easy task!

How much yogurt would you be replacing for the BM?

My worry would be the nutrition comparing the yogurt to the formula.

I completely agree with the previous poster. Before one year, most nutrition needs to come from BM or formula. There is really no alternative, formula is made to replace BM. Having said that, you can totally introduce yogurt as part of her "solid" meals, just not to replace BM.

Gotta say I completely agree with the previous two posters. Under a year there is no nutritionally balanced alternative to either BM or formula. After 9 months dairy is a great option to add to babe's solid diet but certainly not complete enough to stand on it's own. Quite frankly I am a bit shocked that your doctor would suggest this!

Great job on making it to 7 months despite such a busy work schedule :) Good luck weaning!

When my son was six months old and I needed to supplement with formula he developed intolerance to most of the main brands. The pediatrician and I tried many different kinds and none worked. I then took him to a pediatric gastroenterologist and he recommended yogurt. The specific brand was “Stonyfield Farms Organic Smoothie”. He also prescribed vitamins. It worked like a charm! My boy started gaining weight and his digestive problems were gone. From the yogurt he graduated to “Pediasure” which we gave him until he was 2 years old. In our case yogurt was the answer to our prayers, my boy is already 10 years old and very healthy!

I have a 3 months old daughter now and I EP for her. Since I was better prepared this time around, I got a good frozen stash ready before I had to go back to work, but if I needed to supplement again, I would definitely ask the same doctor… My recommendation would be to seek a second opinion, maybe a specialist like I did, he might be able to better explain the pros and cons between formula vs. yogurt. Good Luck!!!
