I started pumping exclusively at 3 weeks. Baby girl would not latch on and she was jaundiced too. This message board is a life saver! We started pumping every 2 hours in the beginning. It was hard, it seemed every time LO would nap I was pumping and sometimes I would be feeding her in her bouncey seat and pump. I have had clogged ducts galore, bruised nips and thrush and a bout with Mastitis, it came on very quickly for me too. I thought I had a clogged duct and the next day when I felt bad and had redness I went to the Dr. Started taking antibiotics and also got Lecithin in granular form. This thins the milk and helps with clogged ducts.

I cut back to 6 pumps daily before the 12 week mark, somewhere around 8 weeks I think, because my supply was pretty good. 45-50 oz a day. I still had some pumps where I had to feed the LO at the same time. I also invested in the Baby Enstien videos which are also great for keeping LO's attention. Somehow I just dealt with the lack of sleep and kept reminding myself why I am doing this. pumping is so much harder than nursing.

As log as you pump 20 min or more and make sure you empty the breasts you should be good with the blocked ducts. We're now at 4.5 months and I have not had to deal with any blocks and have dropped down to 4 pumps a day and pump for 35 min. each time. I am now pumping 60 oz a day and have a great freezer supply. I know everyone is different but I started out pumping about 20 oz a day at 3 weeks and have seen a increase over the 4 months. I dropped my MOTN pump at 16 weeks or so, then dropped to 4 pumps about 2 weeks ago. It has been a very log, stressful road but its worth it! if you are lucky and have a good supply then try cutting back a pump, I wouldn't loose the MOTN pump till you hit the 12 week, at 12 weeks you will have a well established milk supply. HANG IN THERE it does get easier! I also work full time... I hope you the best.

I would strongly recommend that you read the beginner's guide.
