Nipple shield?

Baby & I have latch issues so that's why a nice nurse showed me how to pump. But I recently discovered we could have used a nipple shield. Has anyone here used it? I tried it and I have no clue how much milk is coming out so I just offer nipple shield as an appetizer lol then feed bottled breast milk. Anyone else using nipple shield as a stimulant to help more milk get produced? My right breast is hurting, maybe engorged! and I'm hoping baby can help bring it down a bit with help from nipple shield with combination of pumping?

I used a shield for my six weeks of off and on nursing. Depending on your flow, babies can or can not get enough milk when you use one. My daughter could get enough (as was evidenced by it running out of the shield), but after a while keeping it on became a real challenge and she became enraged that the flow wasn't as good as a bottle and gnawed away at me--OUCH! She was also latching incorrectly with it, so I was still getting damaged. I would say go ahead and give it a shot to stimulate your milk production--I would think it could really work for that purpose. It just wasn't the long term nursing solution for us that I hoped it would be.

I used nipple shields to transition baby fully back to breast. If baby is happy after a feed, leave it and don't offer the bottle. Pump to make sure your supply stays unaffected and when baby is hungry offer the shield again. You can toP baby off with a bottle if he's hungry but if you always give the bottle then all baby has to do is wait until the "real" meal comes.
I hope this helps. We had a pretty rocky transition lasting over a month where it felt like twice the work bit it was very well worth it
