How long have you ladies EP'd??

How long have you ladies been EPing and how old is you LO?

I've been EPing for 7 months and my son is 9 months. I want to continue to EP for at least another 4-5 months (boobies willing =)

I'm glad I found this forum, because it feels like there isn't a lot of support for EP moms. It's either you BF or you give formula! I'm always having to explain to family/friends, "No, he doesn't nurse anymore, I pump the milk out for him." Then I get that crinkled face look Undecided lol

I started EPing when my daughter was 3 weeks old for many different reasons.  I stopped EPing when she turned 1 and started cow's milk and she is now 15 months old.  Pumped about 8 session a day in the very beginning then eventually down to four times a day when she was 3 or 4 months to 8 months old.  I could pump about 30 oz a day and she would only drink about 20oz a day so I had a pretty large freezer stash...until she turned 6 months old and went through a growth spurt drinking 40-45 oz a day and I was thankful to have this backup stash to get us through that week or two without having to supplement any formula.  Then we started solid foods at 6 months and she was back to 20 oz a day.  At 8 months I went down to 3 times a day because it was more convenient with work and my two middle of the day pumps were getting smaller so I just combined them into one session midday.  It only brought my daily supply down about 1 oz a day.  I did this for a few more months until she was 12 months.  I thought the weaning process would be uncomfortable, engorged, and take a while but I was surprised that as soon as I went down to two times a day that within about 10 days I was down to no pumping at all.   She had no problem transitioning to cow's milk pretty much cold turkey.

When I told people I EP'd they always either praised me for doing it or had no idea that was even an option.  EPing is what helped my sanity early on, knowing exactly how much I was pumping and feeding my daughter was a huge stress reliever.  When I stopped at the one year mark I was excited to have some freedom from the pump.  Within a few weeks of finishing pumping however my period went crazy (heaving, spotting, irregular, happening every 2 weeks) and have had several severe migraines (something I had never had before).  OBGYN and neurologist think hormone changes could be reason....  now i would rather be pumping than dealing with this!  :)

My LO is 9 1/2 months and I have been EP'ing since she was 4 days old.  I never thought I would make it this far and this site has definitely helped get me to this point.  In the beginning, it was just too overwhelming to think about making it a year, so I just set little goals for myself that seem acheivable.  It is a struggle some days and others are easier.  I just have to remind myself that I am doing this for my baby's well being on the hard days and it's worth it! :)
