Hello there!! I'm a new mom here and my son is 15 days old in the NICU. He was born at 28 weeks and is being fed thru a feeding tube right now. I have been pumping since the day I delivered and I am only getting 1 oz all together (both breasts) I pump every 2-3 hrs for 15 min w/ a hospital grade rental pump (Medela Symphony)...my problem is that my son is now up to 15CC every two hours (half an ounce) and I am beginning to worry that my supply is not enough to keep up with him....I drink plenty of water and try to get as much rest as possible while still trying to get up and pump at least 1-2 times thru the night....Is my supply going to come in soon?? Or is this normal for just 2 weeks in???

hi there, my girls were 30 w twins and in the nicu for over a month. They are 11 weeks old. hang in there it really does get easier. I was getting more milk then you at 2 weeks in (about 60 ml) but I was also pumping for a longer amount of time. are there lactation consultants for the nicu? or even in the hospital that you can work with. I found them to be so very helpful. I was doing compressions, hand expression, hot compresses, etc. dont stop till at least 5 min after the milk stops. They will give you lots of tricks on how to do this without a baby. Good luck!!!!! and the biggest lesson I have learned through this journey is that there is no normal! :)

Definitely read the beginner's guide on this board, too.

Thank you everyone for all the advice! My milk has come in and I'm now getting about 30-40CC everytime I pump! :) Which is currently keeping up with my DS so I'm a little less stressed these days!!!! They actually have a new setting on the Medela Symphony pumps in the NICU that I used several times a day while spending time with my son....its a Preemie+ pump and its supposed to simulate the sucking a preemie would do. I definately see a difference in my supply since using it and I am very happy! :)
