Hi,

I need advice on how to balance everyday tasks in taking care of baby with pumping.

It seems like everytime I pump, my baby wakes up or needs to be held, etc. Just wondering how you all manage and need tips on how to give baby attention while pumping. Right now, I have helpm so the baby is taken care of when I'm pumping but will not have any help starting in a week's time.

thanks, i'll try that. I was looking at the beginners guide and i saw that the recommended time for each session is around 35-40 mins. Ive been doing only around 20-25 mins. That is what my lac consultant advised. If I do for longer, I don't get more milk.

Also, would anyone recommend buying the Modela freestyle pump?

Thanks!

Recommended time is usually around 2hrs a day total, so it fluctuates with how many pumps you do.

My most used item while pumping is my baby swing. I set up the swing next to where I am pumping.

I love my medela freestyle pump and I use the simple wishes handsfree bra. You can wear the freestyle around the house and even care for your baby while wearing it.

What worked best with me was swaddling my baby after feeding and changing him (so I knew those needs were met), then putting him in the bouncy seat at my feet and bouncing him to sleep with my foot while I pumped. Sometimes he cried and it was difficult for me to see, but he almost always stopped crying and was asleep before I was done pumping.

The other thing that helped was getting more pump parts and putting the parts I was using in the fridge between uses so I only had to do dishes once a day.

Good luck!
