Feeling like Im done

I just need to vent! Im feeling like Im ready to be done. I have been Eping since day 4 and my daughter is 6.5 months now. I tried dropping to four pumps, because if I were actually nursing thats how many times my daughter would eat. It was going great, I was sleeping until 7 and feeling rested, but the last few days I am pumping so slow! I am having to pump for an hour, and then when I am finished I still feel uncomfortably full. By the time an hour comes my poor nipples are so sore and bruised, I stop.I have tried picking the pumps back up, but cant seem to empty. I am just frustrated. I want to stop but my husband keeps pushing me to continue because my goal was 9 months to a year. I appreciate his support but its making me feel that much more guilty for quitting. I counted my frozen stash today and I only have 230 oz, thats only enough for 11.5 days....So no question really, just needed to complain to an understanding crowd, because I love my husband but he has no idea what its like. I feel like I am letting not only him down, but my daughter for not even being able to suck it up for a year for her. I think I am just mentally exhausted. To all you who have gone a year, serious koodos!

An hour at a sitting is a lot! It is completely understandable that you are feeling frazzled by that. I forget who said it first on this board, but someone said to never quit on a bad day. We all have ups and downs, so if some days are better than others maybe wait for a "good" day to decide what to do? I agree it is essential to have a supportive spouse, but also that they don't really have an idea how challenging it can be. Hang in there--whatever you decide, you've already done something great for your baby!

Have you checked your pump for suction? Perhaps it is not performing up to par? I have heard that changing the membranes can help, as well as the faceplate. Someone said they called Medela about it and were sent a new faceplate. Not sure which pump you have, but that might be an option. Also, I'm sure you've tried this, but massaging and compressing while pumping can help empty too. Good luck!

I was going to say the same thing the PP said. Check your pump, your membranes or valves might have worned off and maybe they are not doing their job.

For no matter how long you do it, you've done something truly wonderful for you baby!

I had a really hard time keeping motivated at the six month mark and I really wanted to quit then too! The advice below is great - don't quit on a bad day, and check your valves. Also, I would have one bad week every month - that started right around six months - so you might be "cycling" and going through a bad week but next week things might just get all of a sudden better again.

Thank you! It does seem to come in waves. Im still going.....pumping away. I just had to quit worrying so much about how long in between pumps and how many a day etc. Ive been pumping when I feel like I need to and its working so far. Ive also set a goal of 9 months, 12 months just sounded to daunting right now. My daughter will be 7 months on the 2nd! So two more months then I am going to take it a day at a time, hopefully I can wean and use my freezer stash and supplement with formula. Thank you for all the tips! They were all very helpful
