Question about freezing breastmilk

New to this whole thing and I am just barely starting to freeze some extra meager supply and have a question. When I want to freeze breastmilk, should I do it immediately after pumping or can you put the extra milk in the fridge in a bottle from different pumping sessions (possibly different days) for a few days and at the end of day 3 or whatever freeze whatever is extra? Ideally I would like to put all the milk into bottles and after a couple of days freeze it if I have extra since I am still at a stage where I do not know if I will have extra or not. Is it not sanitary to do this?

Also when you freeze BM, do you put the storage bags in another container/put them in another ziplock baggie or do you place them directly into the freezer? I would like to use the least amount of storage when storing them as I do not have a lot of freezer space.

Thanks in advance!

It is ok to combine milk from several different pumping sessions into a single container and then freeze it. When I was pumping and storing milk before I went back to work from my maternity leave, I usually tried to freeze every other day. Be sure you date the milk for the earliest milk pumped.

I think many people have their own "methods" for storing frozen milk. Personally, I put the already frozen bags of milk into ziploc freezer bags because it made moving them around much easier in our little freezer. That way, I could unpack and repack the whole freezer around the breastmilk pretty easily. It also meant that when the hurricanes/tropical storms came over the summer, I could move the milk to a neighbor's house where they had a back-up generator really easily. But this was just me. I didn't really find that an extra layer of plastic bag was taking up a lot of space in my freezer.

i used small to medium sized gift bags in my freezer...i would stack the flat frozen bags and staple a piece of paper to the outside with the dates and oz's and number of bags etc
