Hi Ladies,

I've been eping for 7 months successfully. About a month ago I dropped pumps because my supply was getting unmanageable and I was running out of room. Investing in a freezer just was not an option, any way I started pumping only 4 times a day and I accomplished reducing my supply. This afternoon I went to the bathroom and my monthly friend, who had been gone since I got pregnant, made a come back!! Im nervous about loosing my milk and also getting pregnant again! Will my milk supply die because my estrogen is high now? Is anyone menstruating and still able to produce milk? Should I add pumps to stave off my monthly friend? What about birth control now, is it safe to take and feed my milk to by LO? Please respond with any advice... Thanks.

My baby is 4 months old and I got my period twice already. You won't lose your supply, but it might dip a little bit on the days prior to your period coming. It did for me, but never lost my supply. In regards to birth control, you can take the mini pill (micronor). It is prescribed for lactating mothers so it doesn't affect their milk supply.

I have had period 2 times already and it didn`t affect my supply. And keep in mind that I have a supply drop a month before period, so it was bad to begin with. If you already have your period and amount of milk didn`t change you are not going to suffer. Supply drop with period happens before or during period.

As for the birth control I was told at parenting group and by my physician that you need pump\breastfeed at least 6 times a day to have any contraception effect from breastfeeding and this is not 100% safe.

Even low amount birth control pills might affect your supply and you never know until you try it. But you could use vaginal spermicides. If you follow all instructions they are quite effective actually.
