I tried desperately to get my daughter to nurse for 10 days but she just would not latch. I have flat nipples so this was a big part of the problem. I have been exclusively pumping now for 6 weeks. I am using a the hospital grade ameda elite pump and I try to pump every 2-3 hours during the day and I sleep as long as my daughter sleeps at night. When I first started pumping I was lucky to et 2 oz per day. Now I am getting 12-14 oz per day. I am taking fenugreek, goats rue, and domperidone. I pump a minimum of 20 minutes at everytime and often pump for 45 min-1 hour i realize this is a long time, but it often takes 15 minutes for me to get a let down and i continue to get milk the entire time and try to pump for 5 min after milk has stopped Is there any moms out there that had this low of a supply and still eventually got a full supply? I don't feel like I can add any more pumping sessions as it will take away from time with my daughter but i would really like to stop having to supplement. I could really use some encouragement if anyone else has been in this situation!

I have an issue with low milk supply. This is my second baby and with my first I had to go back to work, so I ended up supplementing - this time I opted for exclusively pumping because he has a suck problem. I am skimping by on between 28 - 32 oz a day, which is just enough for my 4 month old. My routine is oatmeal in the morning, 12 fenugreek pills split into 4 pills 3x a day, MotherMilk tinnure 3x a day, and a healthy diet. I pump every 3-4 hours during the day and get up 1-2 times during the night. I recently discovered that the mini pill I started DRASTICALLY dropped my supply, so I immediately got off of it and regained my supply within 3 days. Because of this, I also refrain from any other medications as you never know what is going to affect your supply personally. I also started Weight Watchers recently which adds 14 points to a breastfeeding mother's allowance. I thought I was eating enough calories before, but I definitely wasn't. If I get in my total points for the day I pump enough breastmilk AND lose weight.

Hi, I have a 6 week old and have been exclusively pumping since week 2 due to a number of issues. It took nearly 2 weeks for my milk to come in and in the beginning I was only able to get a few ounces a day if I was lucky but now am up to about 20-25 ounces a day. What worked for me is a combination of the following: Mothers Love Special blend vitamins, Solgar fenugreek vitamins, mothers milk tea as often as I can, oatmeal once a day, Medela Symphony pump pumping at least 7 times (8 if I can) a day, plenty of water and trying to sleep as much as I can. I also drank Mexican hot chocolate and in my culture (I'm Chinese) according to my mom it's good to eat lots of hot soups. Also my mom made me this soup made with fatty pork and peanuts - I know it sounds gross but it wasn't too bad and I was willing to do anything for the baby. Also I'm sure it's just psychological but I swear eating donuts and other sweets help increase supply (maybe it just makes me happy and that's what works). For me, getting to 20 ounces a day was an accomplishment though I think it's still a small amount compared to others. Ive noticed that the amount is steadily going up day by day so hang in there. I'm exhausted beyond belief but am trying my hardest to get 7-8 pumps a day. I pump for 20 minutes at a time and try my best to relax during pumps (it really does help) and am avoiding parsley, caffeine, alcohol, and medications. I hope this helps and good luck! After reading numerous websites I realized that there are lots of others in similar situations and reading forums like this give me encouragement and the strength to forge through another day of pumping.

Okay I know this may sound crazy I was making less than you just about a week ago and I finally had it, it was effecting me and my marriage. I was pumping so much I felt I never got to see my baby and my husband was having to do all the work all the time cause I would spend 5some hours a day pumping. And I decided one night I was just gonna quit I was gonna wein myself down I took a shower after not pumping for 4 hours which was the longest I had ever gone and to my amazement I had made more. Went to bed woke up when my son woke up and pumped and made more. Right now I pump 6x a day for 20the minutes and I've made more than I ever have. I don't take any supplements or pills. I eat a bowl of oatmeal. And basically not stress. Whatever milk you can or have given your baby is awesome! You have tried! Try not to kill yourself over this and all the rules. There not for everyone, try putting a wet towel in the microwave before you pump and heat it up till its warm place that on your chest and message for about a minute before you pump that may give you a faster let down. Also if you haven't made or bought one yet get hands free it makes your life a million times better I cut a old sports bra and it works amazing.
Bottom line it is what it is! We try our best and that's all we can do. Try to stay positive (-: btw my son is almost 4 weeks I've been pumping only for 3 weeks I make 15oz a day and I am fine with whatever happens. Hope you get some sleep and good luck
