I'm so happy I came across this site exclusive for EPing moms!!!
I would appreciate any advice you could give me in order to increase my milk supply again.
The story is as follows:
I am 35 and my son is now 4 months old. Because of my age, it took a while for my milk to kick in, and during this time, I had to pump, so it became natural for me to continue doing so, even though he latched on. It was also a benefit to do this because my family could help me take care of him and feed him with bottles. He eats only breastmilk through bottle, and sometimes, I still breastfeed him, but very rarely.
In the beginning, to establish good supply, I was pumping every 2-3 hours, pump after breastfeeding him, set my alarm at night so I would still pump no longer than 3 hours inbetween, and of course, drink lots of fluids. I was never a huge milk producer to begin with, but was able to squeeze out about 5-6oz from both, which was more than enough for my son. I couldn't go more than 2-3 hours before my breasts got engorged and it was painful, but now... I can go easily 5-6 hours and I'm pumping maybe 3oz or so, and at night, it could be as little as 2oz, which totally freaked me out!!!
Once I returned to work (after 8 weeks), I continued to pump every 2-3 hours, but it became more and more difficult the more work I got. So now, on average, during an 9 hour work day, I pump 3 times, sometimes 2
So, my milk supply has decreased significantly, and it seems like my period is about to come back because of the low milk supply
What can I do to increast the supply again?
Can I get it increased even if my period returns?
What I am doing now:
Pumping once again every 2 hours (have set the alarm on every 2 hours at work!)
Pump more than 15 min, especially 5 min after the breast is empty.
Drink lots of water (which is difficult for me since I'm suffering from incontinence PP)
Oat cookies (not big fan of oatmeal so started with cookies)
Breastfeed during night time and add pump after at least once after BF the baby.
Am I on the right path?
Will my milk come back?
Thank you amazing mothers!
