Cereal and fussiness?

Night before last we gave my LO cereal for the first time and all day yesterday he was a cranky little boy! I could hear his tummy rubling and making noise. Just wondering if when you started your little one on cereal did it make them cranky? Just a note, he is just now 3 months... I know a little early but he is a big boy and could eat enough for twins! Thanks!

Hello! Just wondering why did you start him on solids so early? Our pediatricians ( I'm in Canada) do not recommend to start solids till 6 months of age, since before that babies' digestive truck is not ready for solid foods, doesn't matter how big they seem or how much milk they drink. Babies are meant to suck, not chew. So, may be that's just the case and you boy's tummy just is not ready yet.

But even later they might have a reaction when you start solids. We started on cereal

I tried cereal because if you read what the signs are for readdiness he is. He has amazing head control, he is constintly watching me eat with a look of 'I want that' and he eats non stop. He will eat almost 5-6 oz. every 3 hours even at night with only one 5 hour streach when he first goes down for sleep.

With that kind of fussiness the other day, I think I will wait for a few more weeks and try it again. You may be right in that is tummy isnt ready even though he is. When I do try it, would you suggest using the RS formula instead of using the dry rice cereal? I do have a can of that, I bought it not knowing what RS stood for!

Thank you for your input and I do believe that I had the right idea in trying it even though he is not 4 months old yet. Our

Oh, yeah, my son was exactly like that at 3 months, eating all the time and watching us eat:) I wouldn't give your boy RS formula, since it's still formula, they just use rice starch to make it thicker for babies that are prone to spit up. But that's not the problem in your case, right? I don't think that it can be used as a substitute for solids. Plus it contains milk, and we are told not to give milk or formula with milk till one year if a baby is breast fed. And why would you want to give him formula anyway if he's having breast milk? I would just wait and try cereal again a little later. Did you mix it with breast milk or water? You could also try to make cereal a little more liquid for easier transition...

I will wait but I had no idea about RS formula!! I will return it in exchange for a different kind. I am open to formula because I only make 28-32 oz. a day and since he eats 35+ so I had thought I could give formula at night but I'll wait!

Also, I did mix it with bm and it was very liquid. I mixed it to the max that the box said. I havent givin it to him since and no fussy! Guess that is a sign I need to wait!
