Dropping to 2 pumps...how do you do it?

So here we are, my DS turned 11 months yesterday. Didn't really think I would make it this far...but thanks to this board we are still going strong! And now I need your help again, ladies. I dropped to 3 pumps about a month ago, lost about 10 oz's. DS still drinks 30-35 oz's daily, so I would stay at 3 if I could, but I am going back to work in January and then will not be able to pump mid day while I'm at work. It is only part time, 3 days a week for now, so I am kind of confused on what I should do... Should I pump twice on the days I work and go back to 3 pumps while I'm at home? Or should I drop that third pump all together? I will have some freezer stash if I need to supplement, plus I'm hoping to start giving him some cow's milk as well once he turns 1. So what are your thoughts on this?.. Also, if I do drop to 2, how exactly do I do it? My schedule now is 7am, 2:30pm, 10pm. And I will need to have something like 7am and then 7am or 8pm. The transition to 3 was fine, but I do still feel quite full before my pumping session, especially the first morning one. So I just have no idea about how I could only pump twice and not get all clogged up ( I'm very prone to clogs). What are your experiences? How long do you think the transition to 2 might take?
Really appreciate any kind of advise!

First of all, congrats on the great work you've done so far! :smileyhappy:

Now, as for your questions...

If it were me (and your situation is actually quite similar to mine), I would keep your current schedule on days that you are home. On days that you work, could you pump at 7 am, 7 pm and 10 pm? I'm thinking that the extra pump before bed might help alleviate any engorgement before your morning pump. And hopefully prevent any loss of ounces. I dropped to 2x a day a couple of months ago in preparation for my return to work (3 days a week), and now I'm thinking about how I can get that third pump back in, because I'm not producing as much as I'd like to. I've started pumping in the middle of the day on the days when I'm home, and even that is helping.

If you do decide to drop the third pump, I suspect you will lose a few ounces, but the bright side is that you probably won't get as full overnight. For me, the transition only took a few days before I stopped feeling really full (but I'm not a HVP). I would try pumping at 7 am and 10 pm in your situation (or keep another pump at 7 pm as I mentioned above).

Good luck, and keep us posted!

That's exactly what I was thinking about! But i'm worried that if I keep that third pump ( just the way you're suggesting) I won't be able to go that long without pumping:((( I mean that's like 12 hours! I currently produce 40-44 oz's, and also I'm quite small chested, so you can imagine what I feel like with all that milk in my bbs:( I thing the longest I've gone during the day so far was 9 hours and I was quite engorged by then...how did you do it? Did you stretch your hours during the day like 1 hour more each day or every other day? What is your schedule now? Sorry for all the questions, I just don't want to get into trouble with clogs ( I've lost a lot of supply from them before)...I really would love to hear other's experiences on this...

I just dropped to 2x and I'm an AVP at 23-25oz at 3x per day.

Thank you so much! Eventually I thought that when I drop to 2 I will move the first morning pump later as well, like 9 or 10 am, this way i could just pump before I go to bed, at like 10 pm. But now that I will be going back to work I will have to keep it at 7 am...I do still take lecithin every day, because when I stop, get a clog instantly :(( yes, I will definitely have to go slow on this. So I guess if I start to work on transition closer to December it should be ok? I would really like to feed my son fresh bm as long as i can...
