Hey everyone. My daughter will be 10 months May 6th. I have been pumping since day one. Currently I am pumping twice a day -

Have you taken ovulation tests? They are kind of expensive--they rip you off!--but you can them at the drugstore. The way breastfeeding keeps you from getting pregnant (for some people) is by suppressing ovulation. Even if your period comes back during pumping, ovulation still may (or may not) be suppressed.

My period stayed away till I quit pumping completely at the year mark, but everyone is different. Testing for ovulation might give you an idea of whether or not you need to drop down or quit, but it would take around 30 days to know since you don't have a period to count the days by. It's a pee on the stick type thing, and since you don't know what your cycle is doing, you'd have to just keep doing it day after day for a month to see (you can get cheaper kits with more test sticks on amazon--I did this).

We had trouble getting pregnant a second time, and my doctor said that while some people's bodies are ready immediately (like seemingly all of my friends!), others are not. Now I am almost 17 weeks along, so it did end up working out for us. I only mention this so that you won't feel discouraged or like something is wrong if it doesn't happen right away. We were very frustrated as we wanted our children really close together, but in the end I am surprisingly happy that they will be almost 2.5 years apart,. I hope it works out right away for you, but if not, take heart that your body might just need a few extra months to reset.

PS--28oz at twice a day is ridiculously awesome. I got that pumping four or five times a day!

Thanks so much for your reply.

It is good to know about the ovulation tests. I will keep them in mind. In the meantime, I think I may look to drop down to one pump when she turns 10 months and see if my dear period friend returns. I don't want to stress about it. Like you said, my body is probably just looking after itself. Everything will happen when it should!

Congrats on your pregnancy!

Thanks again.
