relactation after 1 year

Hello there. I am new to the boards. I thought I would check them out.

Background:

Exclusively BFed my son till he was 6 months old. It was a rough start including fingerfeeding the 1st 2 months. Anyway..... I had to have emergency radiation when he was 6 months and had to stop BFing cold turkey. It was torture but I didn't have a choice.

Well, he is turning 18 months old this month and for the past 2 months out of the blue he has wanted to nurse. I don't know where it has came from but he is obsessed. I called my radiologist to see if enough time had elapsed (they had said 6 months to 1 year) and he informed me that I apparently only had to wait 3 months. I'm beyond angry because that means that I would have just had to pump and dump for 3 months and then continued on.

That is a whole different story though. Now it's been a full year with no milk supply or stimulation but I've decided to give it a go and try to relactate. I'm about to start a round of fenugreek and pump as much as possible. Any other suggestions would be nice.

If my supply does come back, I am going to try to just exclusively pump. I really don't think my arms can handle a 25lb toddler up for nursing sessions lol.

I brought out my medela pis and thought heck I'll pump 10 mins and give it a try. I got a ton of colostrum after 10 mins! Maybe relactation after a 1 year break will be possible for me. I doubt I'll ever be up to the demands of a 18 month old but I might be able to supplement some of his whole milk for breastmilk!!!!!!!!!! Sorry just extremely excited!!!!!

I am actually doing the exact same thing! Although I am pumping for our soon to be born adopted daughter. I am taking domperidone and herbs and pumping 8 times a day. I'm only a few days into it but got lots of yellow sticky stuff the first day and now nothing. I can feel changes in there though. I would suggest domperidone and pumping away! Is there a reason you wouldn't want to nurse your son? Perhaps maybe not in public since some people might be put off by him not being brestfed for so long? I think it's completely natural though! Go for it!!
