Hi Ladies,

I'm in kind of an odd situation as I am relatively new to EPing but my son is almost a year old.

Congrats to you for all you have done! You are basically at a year. I don't think there is any magic to making it a couple more weeks! You could probably try any of your ideas and be ok:) I would probably just add a little formula until a year. Good work mommy! Even partial mommy milk is beneficial. I wouldn't feel bad about it! You have done so well!

I'd talk to your doc about introducing cow's milk early.

Good job momma!

I agree with emd2004. My LC said the current reccomendations have changed (yet again!!!!) to now say that you can start introducing dairy after 9 months. Pretty sure I even read this somewhere on a LLL webite or article. Most of the gals I know with LO's that age are already giving a bit of cow's milk in a sippy or bottle in addition to BM/formula. So definately talk to your doctor or LC. The small amount of cows milk you would need to stretch your supply is pretty negligable. IMO at that stage if I am still able to give mostly BM then I would rather supplement with a little moo milk ...could even go organic if you really want to get fancy :) But of course that's what I would do and I'm not in your situation yet, so always best to double check with a pro. Good luck :)

You might look into goats milk as it has a lesser instance of allergic reaction... or almond milk since it's only 4ish ounces a day.

Thanks, everyone. After talking to his pediatrician we decided to start adding just a little cow's milk today. 4 to 4 1/2 ounces of bm and 1 ounce of cow's milk. We're only 17 days from his birthday anyway so I think it will work out okay. I think we'll just do that for a week or two and then start gradually increasing it after he turns 1. I appreciate all of your adivce.

Let us know how it goes! Katie's birthday is 12 days away, and I'm planning to start making her oatmeal with cow's milk soon just to start getting her used to it. Then I"ll probably start mixing like you are after she turns 1. How does a year go by so fast?!

So far so good. Today is day 5 of adding 1-2 ounces of whole milke to 4-5 ounces of breastmilk. He doesnt' seem to notice a difference at this point.

And I have NO IDEA where the year went!
