When to start weaning?

Good morning!

I finally sat down and calculated how much milk I have stashed vs. how much my daughter takes. Right now, I have enough in the freeze to get through about 3-1/2 months. She's 6 months old and I plan on have her on BM until she can switch to cow's milk at one year. I know the weaning process takes a while, so I'm curious when and how I should start. Right now, I pump 4x a day (6,10,3,10) and produce around 38-42 oz. She takes 28-30. So I guess my question is when I should start, should I go ahead and drop a pump or should I wait?

Wow, you're in great shape! If you want to quit ASAP, I would keep the number of pumps you have for a while, wait till you have enough milk to reach 12 months in the freezer, and then start weaning (takes a while, so you will have extra milk in case the cow's milk transition isn't smooth). If you don't care about quitting really soon, I would go ahead and drop a pump and see what happens. You might end up having to pump for a couple extra weeks as opposed to if you kept all 4 pumps each day, but oh the freedom of 3 pumps! In any case, you're in great shape. Good for you!
