I am currently pumping 2x and making about 30 ounces a day. I am considering moving to 1 soon, but want to do it in such a way to keep some supply at 1 for a while. How did you do this transition, what was your output,..Etc.?//?

At 2 sessions per day I was only making around 12 ounces. I dropped my morning session about 2 weeks ago and it took about 3 days for my body to adjust and not to feel overly full. The first 3 days I was around 8 ounces and then it dropped pretty quickly to around 5 ounces and it seems to be sticking to about 5 ounces a day. I would be prepared to lose about 1/2 of your supply or a little more.

I knew I had the capacity to hold 14-15 ounces at a time so I wasn't worried about just dropping the pump cold turkey. If you know your body can hold the full 30 ounce in the beginning then dropping the pump cold turkey probably wouldn't be a problem.

For me it's definitely the last step before weaning but for a HVP then I could see it being more long term.

I was pumping 2x a day and making about 25 oz. When I switched to 1x (in the morning), it dropped to about 15 oz. And then within a week or so dropped to about 12 oz. It's been two months now and I am only making 9 oz. or so.

As for transitioning, I just skipped a pump one night and woke up in the morning and pumped as usual. It did not really seem to bother me at all in terms of discomfort.

I am not sure 1x is sustainable for a very long time. I would suggest you have your child weaned to only one bottle a day if you want to go to 1x a day. We weaned my kid to two bottles 6 oz bottlesa day thinking I would keep it up at 12-15 oz for awhile. Now we are scrambling to wean her to 1 bottle a day before the freezer stash runs out. Our pediatrician recommended 16-20oz of milk (either breast or whole) per day and my kid is not that interested in drinking large quantities out of a sippy cup.

Thanks ladies! I hope to drop in 2 months after winter. My morning supply is dropping on it's own so I think I will keep my night time pump. It would be great if I could maintain 15 ounces. We shall see.
