Hi everyone..I took my daughter for her two month check up yestarday and was concerned to see she hasnt gained weight. She does have infant reflux and is on Enfamil AR and it does help somewhat..She only spits up immediately after a bottle now and not nearly as much. She's also on a reflux med...But she's not gaining weight..She's only gained about 2 oz since her last appt..She's never fussy but all she does is sleep..We have her on an every 3 hr feeding schedule right now on doctors orders..She's falling at about the 5th percentile for weight and height right now..Thats so close to the border if she doesnt gain any by her next appt in 4 weeksshe'll be diagnosed with failure to thrive..She eats plenty for her age..Literally she gets 5 oz(thats all she'll take at a feeding) every three hrs around the clock..so about 8 feedings a day for a total of about 40 oz..I've dabbled with the idea that she may have an allergy of some kind but soy formula didnt help her at all..The AR stays down well but maybe she's not absorbing it? Im really worried because she's such a little girl..she'll still wearing newborn diapers at 2 months and I feel awful.Would it hurt to try a special formula for allergy or for fat malabsorption? She also seems to gag a lot and has a chronic stuffy nose..She never smiles and by now she should be starting to..Anyone with experience I would love to hear your opinions on this.
I'm so sorry that you and your family are strugglng right now.
Hi there! It seems like you are having a really tough time. Hopefully, I can help a little. It seems the main issues here are whether it hurts to eat and that she is not gaining weight.
The fact that she is still gagging and never smiles could simply be because of hidden reflux. By that I mean that the milk is still coming up and causing her pain, but you cannot see it because it is not coming out of her mouth.
