so ill just tell you what ive been told and what worked for us (although oz of formula i think might be different as my DD was BF) up until a year babies should be getting the majority of their nutritian from formula or BM. SOlids are really just for practice. At that age my DD maybe got a quarter of a stage one in her per day. Now at 10 months she eats all table food

Up to a year, baby should be getting the majority of calories/nutrition from breastmilk (or formula).

Good job waiting until 6 months to start the solids. The first thing to try when starting babies on solid food is rice cereal added to breastmilk or formula.

Thanks for the information, Dr. Blythe! It's good to know that I won't be overdoing it on formula. We are going to start vegetables this weekend :)

Do you think there is an advantage of using organic baby food versus regular? Also, when can I start to transiition him to some table food?

I don't think I've ever mashed or puréed any food for my babies. They both went straight to table foods like sweet potatos and bananas. It, of course, all depends on their readiness. My first didn't show signs of readiness until she was around 11 months. She flat out refused all solids. However, my 1 year old loves to try new things and he showed readiness around 7 months.

We never used rice cereal. It just didn't seem very nutritional to me.

No baby cereals here either. Just some homemade whole grain porridge also self feeding steamed veggies, ripe fruits, stewed meats, plenty of avocados. No need for spoon feeding.
