I'm transitioning my 11 1/2 month old son off of formula and onto whole milk.

you can transition him as quickly as hell let you, by adding WM in with his formula until youre completely off of formula, He can also eat anything you eat is he taking 3 solid meals a day? i also offer several snacks in between. At 12 months my DD took 18 oz of milk and probably 12 oz of water, every baby is so different. i use the same make up just smaller portion sizes know what i mean? as long as hes growing well and having wet diapers. i wouldnt worry about it.

Milk should be limited to no more than 3 cups (24 oz per day) max. because cow's milk can impeed iron absorption.

We offer water from a cup all the time so DS (13 months) knows that water is freely available when he is thirsty. Milk is treated like a food (because it is a food) and limited to meals/snacks.

Offer milk with every meal and water all the rest of the time. You can start, like PP said, by mixing formula (already made up) with milk and slowly make the ratio of milk bigger.
