Im still co-sleeping with one of my 9 month old twins. Matthew will not sleep in his crib all night and always ends up in our bed. Michael does great in his bed. Im avery light sleeper.
I juggled with this myself. if it were just me i would do it in a second, but after watching my dh almost smother the dog and not even notice that he was choking him around the neck and half laying on him, i decided against it;)
if you have done it before, are not using a blanket, i'd say your risk is minimal. have you thought of using an actual co sleeper? then you know s/he is safe and sound, but still right there within arms reach.
