My girl is not quite 9 weeks old and the "I'm a mom" feeling really just hit me yesterday. I've been trying to encourage baby to accept other people and not cling to me and dad all the time. I saw that with another family close to me (mom could barely leave the house without baby) and wanted to try to help baby feel secure with grandparents, aunts, etc. She is wonderful, happy with everybody, takes bottles from everyone, doesn't fuss for me or dad. Then last night grandma was over, helping with baby and although there was no screaming or anything, baby just couldn't fall asleep and stay asleep with grandma. She tried everything multiple times and baby was starting to get overtired and a bit fussy. Then I took baby and in 15 minutes she was out like a light, sleeping peacefully in her crib. I almost cried. It was my first experience that showed that baby needs me and other people who are usually great just won't do when baby needs to really relax and feel secure. That was a powerful moment, right up there with the first time I saw her all slimy and goopy in the delivery room :)

I felt like a mom when I went to the store for the first time with no makeup and my hair was a mess.
