YOWZA! That is a whole lot of money. I know it takes a lot of money to raise a child, but I don't think it will cost that much to raise my son. I think it depends a lot on how you raise your children as well as if you have to pay for childcare or not. We do not have to pay for childcare (knock on wood... fast!) thankfully and I try to take advantage of second-hand stores for clothing and garage sales for toys and equipment. I'm also trying my hand at couponing and have found a big savings there. Now, if I were buy everything at retail, and if I had to pay for child care, I'm sure it would be easy to reach that figure for each child!

I don't think we could spend that much because we don't make that much money. If I divide our income by the number of people in the home and multiply that by 18 years it would be $108,000.

Our kids are 9,4 and 6 months. It is expensive when you have a nine year old boy blowing through shoes, jeans, winter jackets etc because it's hard to find those things used for boys. I've never paid for child care, never bought formula, bought cloth diapers cheap on sale or used, buy used or hand me down clothing whenever possible and we live below our means in general. We don't believe in having a whole bunch of new expensive toys. The most I spend on Christmas is $100 each and the most for a birthday is $50.
