Anyone else with lipase problems?
| Mon, 07-17-2006 - 10:14am |
I have an excess of lipase (some sort of protien/enzeme) in my breastmilk and anything I am going to store for more than 24 hours needs to be scalded. I've had to waste a lot of milk that didn't get scalded and didn't get used. I was just wondering if anyone else had the same problem and could commiserate.
Pamela
Thank you for the support guys! The taste is actually much worse than just soapy. It tastes rancid. It is one of the worst tastes I ever had. I first noticed when I was pumping for my first child 4 year ago. Luckily on a daily basis the milk is fine. I pump it and DH uses it the next day. On Fridays I scald and anything I freeze I scald. I've tried various combinations of not scalding but basically anything over 24 hours has to be scalded or dumped.

Hi Pamela.

Awwwww..
I'm so sorry. I have read about the lipase problem, and it also seemed a lot of work to me.. How about freezing? I have read that it gets a soapy taste after thawing, and does your baby have a problem with that too? Otherwise, you could just freeze everything except the ones to be used strictly within 24 hours..?
