Funny pump story from today

Hi there,

I have a funny story from today.

I work for a large defense contractor and the company is very security concious. So periodically, they do bag checks as people enter and leave. So today, I was leaving.... with my PIS breast pump in tow. The guard stopped me. He was really a young kid - or maybe it's just that I'm old. Anyway, he said "I need to search your bag." So, I put it on the counter and said "ok." So, he opens the front and looks at it kind of confused. Then he says in a serious voice, "this looks like some kind of equipment." I said, "yes," so then he keeps looking at it and says "is this some kind of pump?" and I said "yes." And he said "hydraulic?" and I said "no." He was taking FOREVER on a Friday and I just wanted to get out of there. And then he said "is this company property?" and I said "no." And then he said, "what kind of pump is it?" and I said "it's a breast pump." He said "what's it for?" and I said "milk, it's for milk, I pump my boobs for milk, that's what it is for." He turned beat red and was frazzled and embarrassed while he was trying to zip it back up.

Too funny. Before having Juliane I would have absolutely died of embarrassment, but I'm not sure what happened but I wasn't embarrassed, I just laughed at him. Poor kid.

I've had mine checked at the airport and the courthouse! Love seeing the red faces!

Hehehe. I've been through 3 airports with my PISA and I keep waiting for security to give me a hard time, but they've never even asked to see it. I've seen them stop the belt and take a closer look, but I think that's because I'm carrying so many batteries. The male colleague I was traveling with last time had his bag of papers and cell phone/laptop chargers hand searched and my milk and pump sailed right through.

Thanks for sharing. Were you able to do this without smirking? I wouldn't have been able to keep a straight face!

Oh that is just too funny! Thanks for the laugh!

I never had anything like that happen with my PIS, but I did have a student grab it and carry it into school for me once. We met up in the parking lot and I had a bunch of stuff I was carrying. He grabbed my PIS and slung it over his shoulder. I chuckled to myself thinking about how embarrased he would be if he knew it was my breast pump!

That is so funny..!!

I have also had to answer a few questions from my male colleagues in the early days.. They would go, "What's that?" And I would answer "It's for my baby". Sometimes, some ask, "Oh, You bring your baby here?" LOL And I say, "No, he's at home, this is for next day.." Some do understand and keep quiet..

I have this cooler case, and a lot of people also comment saying, "Hey, that's a cool lunch box".. LOL
