Been lurking awhile but introducing...

myself now. I am Julia and I have been working and pumping for Ashlyn since January 28th. She was born November 26, 2002 and is doing wonderfully on just breastmilk. She started rice cereal after her 4 month appointment last Thursday and just loves it, mixed with breastmilk, of course.

Anyway, I decided to introduce myself just now because I've been having a hard time the last few weeks with supply, which is my own fault because I keep slacking off on the water drinking. I really hate water, it takes so much these days just to make myself swallow it, seriously. But anyway, it is necessary because I've noticed as soon as I drink less, I get less when I pump. So anyway, this morning I pumped and only got 2.5 oz (1.5 from one side and 1 from the other) and I was so depressed about it. I then opted for a soda rather than water, even though I knew I needed the water, which made me feel even worse. Sooo, I'm getting to the point, I promise! It was almost time for my afternoon pumping session about an hour ago. I decided to come here and lurk around. I started reading posts and just suddenly felt better about pumping. I went to pump and hardly anything was coming out, I was just having trouble again but I wasn't that surprised since it wasn't a banner day already. I started thinking about this board and finally got a good letdown thinking of how some of you have gone on so long, etc. I got about 2 oz from each side, which is almost normal for each of my 3 pumping sessions per day. I was really happy with this because I'd gotten so little earlier in the day I figured it was one of those days.

Anyway- then I closed my eyes and thought about little Ashlyn and how she feels curled up in my arm and how I love to tuck her hair behind her ears with the other hand or rub the bottoms of her soft, chubby little feet. I got another letdown and another ounce from each side to total 6 oz! I haven't ever gotten that much in the two months I've been pumping!!

So, feeling quite high on pumping again, which is where I wish to stay when thinking about it - I decided to come introduce myself now. I'd love to become a more active member of this board and get the support I am needing more and more so that we can make it to a year. My goal right now is 6 months, we made 3 and have under 2 to go before she is 6 months old. That is way easier to set my mind on than a year :)

I guess I'm introducing myself but also saying thank you for helping me without even knowing it! And thanks again if you've made it this far, I tend to ramble on and on, seriously, LOL!

Welcome! And congratulations on your second-letdown! MOORAY!

I totally agree that it is tough to get your mind around pumping for a year - you're doing the right thing by setting small goals . . . if it gets even harder, just try to pump for one more day, then one more day, you know?

As you've already found out, this is a great place for support, friendship, and advice. We look forward to getting to know you.

Hi Julia,

Welcome! And congratulations on your improved pumping results! I am new to the board too, but this is my second time W&P--I nursed my son until he was nearly two, and pumped 2x a day for him through most of his first year. I have a two month old and have just started pumping again for her. I have been having some problems getting my letdown reflex going with the pump, and reading all the recommendations on this site has really helped refresh my memory! Good luck with your nursing goals! You are doing a wonderful thing for your baby and you should be proud of your accomplishments thus far! Warm Regards, Jen

That was such a sweet posts. Welcome to the board, my first goal was 6 months, but because of this board I am considering trudging on. Emma's 6.5 months now and this board has been such a big help to me, I truly wouldn't have made it without all the help.
