Hello all :)
My son is 2.5 weeks old - and I'm going to be home with him until March but then I have to go back to work. Being the planner that I am, I want to get on a good pumping schedule now to ensure adequate supply once the time comes.
I started out pumping because of flat nipples, but now he's able to take the breast with a nipple shield without pumping first - so I kinda teetered off the pumping.
He nurses on only one side every 2-3 hours, sometimes 4 hours at night. During the day I like to try to pump whatever side he doesn't nurse from - for about 5-7 minutes, and usually get 1-2 oz from that breast. At night or when we have company I don't get the chance to or just choose not to.
Is this a good thing to be doing to ensure milk supply? Or should I make my pumping sessions a completely different time?
Thanks in advance for your advice and input! :)
