Dumping all of my June freeer stash

I'd been suspecting something was wrong with everything I pumped in June. I got confirmation tonight.

I started pumping 7 days after my baby was born, because I was so engorged. So I had a huge freezer stash. All of that June milk looked yellow, so I thawed some of it, and we did a taste test - it's certifiably nasty. Smells soapy and tastes soapy. There's no way he'll eat that. I'm so upset - I was using Lansinoh bags and I thought I was storing them correctly.

I just went down to check the other stuff from July, and it's yellow too. I'm not able to freeze anything else right now because he's eating so much. It's devastating to think the 30 day freezer supply I had might all be bad.

I was thawing everything in the refrigerator, should I thaw it some other way to try to preserve it? Or do you think it's a lost cause?

Thanks....*sniffle*

That's a real bummer :(

But just b/c it's yellow, doesn't mean it's bad.

UGH!!! It sounds like it is lipase...but I don't want to go through the hassle of scalding the milk. I guess it won't be an issue now since I'm barely keeping up with his demand, I'm not able to freeze anything extra.

The fresh stuff I tasted today was fine, and even the stuff pumped from last week was fine - although it had a little bit of a soapy smell. The stuff from June had such a strong soapy taste I just knew he would refuse it. :(

Thanks for the link...we'll take it one bag at a time but I'm not hopeful.

I just pitched everything from May, June, and July, and am pretty sure my stash from August needs to go as well.

Thanks Heather....as exhausted as I am, I *almost* wish William would reverse cycle so I didn't have to worry about the freezer stash and having enough for him at daycare.

It's weird the stuff I pump that's up to 5 days old is either not at all soapy tasting/smelling, or just a touch soapy smelling/tasting. But everything I have read indicates it doesn't always take on the bad smell fast - sometimes takes a few days.

I'm going to try mixing small amounts of the not-so-soapy smelling stuff with fresh to try to stretch my supply out.

Sorry you lost all your freezer stash, but glad you don't really need it thanks to your reverse-cycler. :)
