I'm bf'ing DS, but want to start building up my supply of frozen breastmilk for when I go back to work in 5 weeks.

Spencer will be along with some advice for sure, but I'd say, based on my experience, that what you are doing is just fine.

This will be quick b/c it's almost midnight and I have a big day tomorrow, but if you're confused about anything, I can come back and clarify ;)

I wouldn't worry about building a ginormous stash ... yes it's good to have some freezer stash, but don't go crazy w/ it.

what helped for me was pumping IMMEDIATELY after nursing. you won't get much, maybe half an ounce to an ounce, but if you add up all the sessions in a day it comes out to a decent amount :) also, if LO sleeps longer stretches at night (4 hours or more) he will usually only nurse 1 side when he wakes up, then you can pump the other side. this worked really well for me in the beginning. Then DD started rejecting the boob at 8 weeks and I had to resort to EPing at 10 weeks... but that's another story :)

Before I went back to work, I actually pumped at 4am most nights lol not that I'm recommending that, but it worked for me. My daughter would sometimes wake to eat around that time and sometimes not. I would pump either way, because if she woke she would only take one side anyway. I was usually pretty engorged by then and I would pump the largest quantity.

I always pump one side when I feed DS on the other side. (He never takes more than 1 at a time.)
