I have a one week old and really need to either purchase a pump or get the hygeine kit for the Ameda Purely Yours that I got from one of my good friends. Thoughts?

I would go with the Ameda for sure! It is safe for multiple users, but like Spencer said the life of the pump is shorter than if you bought it new. I see them all the time on craigslist, though, if your pump were to die!

I'm glad you get more than 6 weeks :) I went back at 8 weeks w/ #1, which was tough, but I had 13 weeks w/ #2.

I will be home 10-11 weeks. My paid time will run out around then so I will need to go back to work. I ordered th replacement parts for the Ameda. My friend used it for about 10-11 months but was working part-time for a about a third of that time and not pumping heavily.

Welcome to the board!

I believe the Ameda Purely Yours has a physical barrier preventing back up of milk into the tubing and thus into the pump.
