Okay, so I will be going back to work next month and I need to buy my own pump. I have been researching and researching pumps and I am so confused and just going back in circles.

Can I put in a vote for the Ameda Purely Yours? It is small, easy to move around and a lot cheaper than the Medelas. Plus it's a closed system so you don't have to worry about growing a garden in your tubes or motor.

There is a thread here in the Working and pumping board about different pumps and people's feedback on them that I will find and bump up for you.

Definitely check out the thread w/ pump reviews from the ladies here. There's some good info.

You are absolutely right, though, that a lot of it is personal experience, and people like different pumps for different reasons.

I have used an older medela PIS (before they switched to a single control which controls both speed and suction - I still don't know why they did that) and overall, I liked how it worked. I just didn't like how hard it was to clean the collection system. It was also bulky and heavy.

With #2 I got the newer Lansinoh Affinity, which was much smaller and had (IMO) a collection unit which was easier to clean. And no way for moisture to get into the tubing, which was a nice bonus. I got good production with it as well, but I'm also a good pumper overall.

Ultimately what I did this time around was use the medela pump at work, but with the parts from a Lansinoh (you're not supposed to do this, but it seemed to work well for me) for ease of cleaning. At home I used the Lansinoh.

I'm another medela freestyle user. Works great for me...so well that I even bought a second so I don't carry a pump to and from work. No issues with condensation and I've been pumping at work since DS was 14weeks and he's nearly 11 months.

I have a PISA and it's fine. However, when my LO was admitted to the hospital for 48hrs at 4wks old, they had an old hospital grade Ameda (no longer manufactured) and I LOVED it. I was getting 2-3oz after nursing my LO, and recently with my PISA that's all I'm getting INSTEAD of nursing. Also, it was very comfortable--it kind of felt like it was massaging. I have to turn the suction up on my PISA and it starts to hurt after a while, but if I don't, I don't get as much milk. If I were buying one, I think I would go for the Ameda Purely Yours.
