We went to our annual appointment last week and it went great!  Emily had grown an inch since last time, which was only 2-1/2 months ago and she got braces, so she didn't eat for a week so we expected her BMI to go down, but it actually went up 3 percentiles!  She is still less than 50, but everyone was really pleased.  Her PFT's were great!  Without Albuterol, her FEV1 was 95 and with Albuterol it was 100!  I hope we can keep them up!

We didn't get a CT scan.  In fact, we haven't had a picture of her lungs for probably 4 years.  They didn't suggest one even, which was good because my dh wouldn't have let them do one anyway.  I guess there have been studies that CT scans in kids increases their risk of certain types of cancer (I think leukemia - but I can't remember what he told me).  His opinion is that she is obviously doing really well, we are already doing everything we can for her and with the advancements being made, he doesn't want to add any risk for other health problems.  What about everyone else?  Do you get regular x-rays or CT scans?  I'm not really sure what the norm is.

We were told CTs every 3 years or chest x-ray every year. Sarah had a CT last year and showed no change from 3 years before so that was good. What day did you go last week? We were there Tuesday.

It's interesting what we become concerned about. I have 1 in braces now and one going into braces next week. From now on I will only allow dental x-rays at the orthodontist because they need to track progress, but not routine ones at the dentist. None of my kids has any cavities. Recent studies have shown an incresed risk of meningioma with dental x-rays. My mom just had a large menigioma removed and just finished 7 weeks of radiation so I'm going to reduce that risk as much as I can. I'm not looking forward to the dentists thinking I'm the "crazy mom" when I tell them my reason, lol.

We were there also Tuesday.  Our appointment was at 12:30 and got finished at 3ish.  What time were you there????  What a small world!

I feel the same way about x-rays at the dentist.  I always worry about it, but have never said anything.  You'll have to let me know how it goes when you do!

Our appt. was at 2:30. Were you the reason it took Ruth so long to get to us? :smileywink:

That's funny! I actually didn't go to the appointment. I took our other 2 kids to the park so they didn't have to wait around for 3 hours! I guess our appointment was really fast, but Emily is doing that liver study and so they had to wait for someone to see her for that. So....the answer is not our fault!
