As more information comes out, I am very concerned about the cost. Kalydeco comes with an annual price tag of $294,000. Is insurance even going to cover that? I know that Vertex has an assistance program, but how many can they fit under that umbrella? It makes me wonder about the even bigger picture...when we find a cure for CF, cancer, MS, etc. is the cure going to even be accessible to the people who need it and does that ever enter the thinking of the foundations/charities that raise money for research? Curious.

I saw the prices on it, and while I understand that it costs them money to get the drug developed, it's also unimaginable that it will be affordable to the public. It's a very good question, and probably not something they think about.

I am very excited by this news. It's such a breakthrough, and I hope & pray that this leads them to a cure for EVERY CF mutation. I, too, am worried about the cost. There doesn't seem to be any good answers. Research companies spend a lot of money creating, testing and approving new drugs. Insurance and government assistance programs help but they'd go bankrupt or run out of money trying to cover everyone who needs it, and of course, for the people who DO need it, there's no way anyone has that kind of money.
