I was wondering if anyone else has run into issues with school transportation?

Hi Stephanie, My little one with special needs is only 20 months old, so we have not crossed the school road yet. I will say that several friends with kids with hypotonia that ride buses in our district ride a special bus that has school staff on it, because they do need help with the steps and they need seat belts because of the low muscle tone, a regular school bus wouldn't be safe for them if they were involved in an accident. The Para on the bus is there to help them get on and off the bus and she helps them with their seat belts.

I hope that the one week trial goes well and that he is able to make the leap to the regular bus. Be sure to keep us posted :)

Hey Kari! They did the trail, which they extended for 2 weeks instead of just one. He did well, and he is allowed to stay on the big bus. I thought he'd enjoy sitting with another kid, but he chooses to sit alone. He told me of an insident where there was a girl sitting behind him got mad at him for touching her feet. Braden was sitting normal with his legs bent at the knees (feet dangling down), and she had her legs extended out underneath his seat. So really it was her fault not Braden's. Grr, when B told me of this I felt like slapping that child! I don't think she sits behind him any more.

Yay for Braden!! I am so happy for you guys and so proud of Braden for doing great on the trial. If you need an older kid to come intimidate the mean kids on the bus, just holler I will put my 12 year old in a box and mail her over to be a security guard for the bus rides :)
