surgery :(

Getting ready for surgery today. My son has a low lying conus and a thickened filum terminal that could lead to his spinal cord become teethered so they are going to go in and correct it today. Very nervous and anxious and can't sleep. The surgery itself isn't very complicated and should only take an hour or so but I am very worried about the recovery. They need to keep him flat for 1 to 2 days so his spinal fluid doesn't leak and that just scares the crap out of me. How will he handle that. A 2 year old still and laying on his back for 2 days.... Plus he has been improving so much in the last couple of months gross motor wise cruising and walking that I am so so afraid this will affect that. Here is to hoping everything goes well and that he recovers in no time with minor discomfort. Thanks for listening :)

(((HUGS))) Nichole, I hope that the surgery went well. Give us an update when you can, I hope that recovery goes smoothly. That would be very tough to him on his back like that.

Thanks everyone. Andrew was a real trooper - we were able to keep him pretty still with lots of Dora dvds. Well except for the one time we were all napping and he woke up, took of his gown and pulled out his iv without even make a noise so we'd know he was up. I guess he was ready to go home. We were sent home Sunday - 2 days after the surgery and he just started therapies again this week. Luckily he has been back to crawling standing and walking with assistance so no real interruption there. Thanks for all the support. It was definately a lot better than I had expected and he did great.
