Ten years ago, on April 8th, I found out I was pregnant for the first time. I was 23 years old and newly married, in college and making $250.00 a month working at a liquor store. It was a planned pregnancy. I remember walking into the clinic on campus, and sitting in the exam room waiting for the result. I cried when they told me. I was so happy/ surprised and in such awe of what was inside my body I couldn't speak. I walked around campus in the rain, not sure where I was going, I was numb. I bought two balloons, a pink one and a blue one and tied them to a card telling my husband I loved him. I circled the tummy on the girl on the front of the card and wrote "It's in there."

It feels so good to remember that day. Who would of thought I'd be where I am now, four beautiful boys.

I wish that beautiful feeling for every woman. Thanks for sharing mine.

Carol, that's exactly the feeling I had except mine went something like:

Dr: Are you on birth control?

Me: No.

Dr: Well, you won't need any for 5mo, cause your pregnant.

Me: Oh! NOOoo!

Okay, so my 1st wasn't exactly like yours! LOL

But my last 3 were...thanks for reminding me.

My first one was such a shock-a wonderful learning experience. I was in such denial-I thought I had the flu even though I was morning sick for 3 weeks solid. We were not married and I was earning minimum wage as a cashier. How far we have come...together.

The second, though, was so wonderful. We got pregnant 2 weeks before my husband went in for his second brain surgery to remove a malignant brain tumor. I remember waiting for the surgery to be over and know he was safe. He was safe and 2 days later-I knew we were pregnant. It was such a wonderful, blessed experience. We wanted a second child so much and were not sure if we could due to his chemotherapy three years before. I remember the smile on his face when I told him.

Thank you for reminding me of that beatiful feeling.

I know that feeling of total denial. I was that way with #4, determined it was the flu for MONTHS & finally tested when I was 12 wks.

Congrats on your happiness & your DH's recovery. Cancer is such a scary thing.

We got preggers just over 12 years ago, but didn't realize it at the time. Dh and I were moving out of southern CA (job transfer), and preparing to drive up to the pacific northwest. Busy time, and we just weren't keeping track (**wink**).

We got to our apartment up here, and got busy with unpacking, new jobs, learning about the area. Somewhere in there I realized I was "late". When I finally took the pregnancy test, I was 5 or 6 weeks along, and it showed positive almost immediately. This was the day before my birthday.

Here's where the neat memories come in - because it was my b-day and we had just moved, relatives weren't surprised with us calling them. My dad had sent me a check and I called and told him I knew what I wanted to use the money for -- to buy maternity clothes! ..........Silence....... and then "WHAT did you say??" I'll never forget that conversation!

And then I called my mom (they were divorced), and said, "Guess what I'm doing for my b-day?" .........."I'm telling everyone that we're going to have a baby!" Total shock! Couldn't have timed it any better!

Hadn't thought about that in awhile!!! ;-)

Nice memory, Carol! :-)

My April memory is 12 years ago on April 7, 1991, when my DH and I got engaged! :-)

My first pregnancy memory is much more complicated since we ended up having to do IVF to conceive the first time. The big day was December 19, 1998 when I went to the hospital for a blood test before work. I knew I'd be getting a call from the nurse around 11:30 or noon to tell me if it was positive or negative, and I was so stressed about the possibility of getting bad news at work that I took off work at 11 to go home & wait for the call. It was, obviously, positive, though the nurse wasn't too friendly about it--acting like I shouldn't get too excited in case I ended up miscarrying! :-0 So it was a while before I relaxed about it...DH came home around the same time (he was in school at the time), & joined me for a celebration lunch at my favorite steak restaurant, & then we went to Babies R Us where I got a pin that said "I'm due in August!" But we were kind of nervous the whole time that it wouldn't last, after all we'd been through! I probably didn't relax until I got to 24 weeks. ;-)

Pregnancy #2 was much more of a shock because it was our first month of trying, with no help from a dr! I took a home test & couldn't believe it had two lines! But I was prepared, with a little Pooh card for DH that said, "It's so much friendlier with two!"

I think we are done with two, though! :-)
