Marvin is 15 and a Sophomore in High School. He has been our guinea pig & while I'm sure we have messed up some, he has really turned out pretty well. Lately he & I talk a lot about his views on life & where he thinks he is going & it really makes me proud to see how level headed he can be.

He has always been the type who does really well at things that interest him & ignores everything else. Unfortunately this means that he does not do very well in school, even though he tests as "gifted" DH & I finally gave up on punishing him for his grades & have decided that his grades belong to him & if he doesn't care about them there is nothing we can do. We will not allow him to drop out of school or switch to a "alternative" education school....he will have to get it together eventually & complete his classes to graduate. We had hoped to send him AWAY to college after H.S. graduation, but his performance these first two yrs of high school has almost certainly made that not feasible. He will probably have to live at home & attend Jr college for a couple yrs before he can get into a good university.

He is in choir at school and really enjoys it. He sometimes talks about becoming a choir instructor and going back to his high school to be the choir director after the current director retires. He has also been talking lately about the possibility of attending seminary & someday teaching religion (he doesn't want to be a priest, but he is VERY interested in religions) Sooooo, teaching seems to be the direction he is leaning, we'll just have to see WHAT he ends up teaching.

I feel that way too, one giant experiment. I just hope I don't bone it up too badly. It's great how somethings really stick...I only wish more did. It's all just a gamble you do your best & then...send them out on their own...and pray.

I believe that they'll use the teaching we gave them all these years as a reference & seak them out during tough times...our jobs is to make sure we instill those values. Looks like your doing a fantastic job! Keep it up Mom for the short time remaining.

Hugs ya later!

Nanc...You might have to Hug me later..it's going by sooo fast!

I am glad it's not just me. I feel the same way about my first. I feel the other two boys should thank Jasen for being our experiement *LOL*

We just have to do the best we can and go from there. I think it's great that he is thinking about teaching and he still wants to learn that has to say something.

hugs,

Tina
