We had a nice weekend- it just went by way too fast! Larry and I took turns taking the older boys on "dates" on Saturday. He took Jacob to a local war museum and I took Cooper bowling later that afternoon. It was nice to do one-on-one things with them! I was also able to do a little school shopping too. Sunday was spent doing housework and grocery planning/shopping. We also went to a birthday party for my niece.

This week the insanity starts. We have several appointments for Jacob and myself and PTA starts up strong too. We have a conference tomorrow and I'm working on getting our things together for our audit that will be taking place soon too. Summer is officially winding down (sniff!).

Our weekend was a good news bad news kind of thing.  Well, actually we had a strange and stressful roller-coasterish several days.  I think I had mentioned that we had scheduled Lucas's first driving lesson for Friday morning.  Needless to say, Lucas being Lucas, he was pretty nervous about it, and I think those nerves got his little brain going all over the place.  On Wednesday night he became very concerned about a tender spot on his scalp.  I tried to assure him it didn't sound serious, but he would not let it rest so I scheduled a doctor's appointment for Thursday just to ease his mind.  She seconded everything I said and assured him it was not a sign of a brain tumor, which was his big concern.  He seemed much better about that, but then he started getting really nervous about his lesson the next day and said how much better he would feel if we could just go to an empty parking lot first and let him try it out.  So, against my better judgement, we did that.  All went okay until he panicked and threw the car into park without stepping on the brake and got it stuck in park.  Dh managed to get it into drive by sticking a key in the gear thingy, but then he didn't think the car sounded right and was concerned that the transmission was now screwed up.  So now Lucas was really upset about that, and dh and I were pretty stressed too.

So, Friday morning rolls around and he goes for his lesson and it goes well.  So he's feeling better.  Then I get a new haircut that I'm super happy with (though Alex claims it makes me look like Dora and kept asking me questions like "Where's your talking map?" and "Did you tell Swiper not to swipe?") So aside from the potential expense of the car, things are looking up.  Then Friday night rolls around.  Lucas comes down and he is an absolute mess about his head again, convinced he has a brain tumor, repeatedly googling the symptoms, etc.  It was really bad; about as bad as I've ever seen him.  I was really worried about him.

So then we get to Saturday.  Dh gets into the car to take it to the mechanic and says everything seems fine now.  We took it anyway because it needed an oil change, leaving us with only a $35 bill, so great news!  Lucas was still pretty off that morning, but I talked to him a lot and gave him some info on anxiety and I thought he was doing better, which was a big relief.

Then yesterday at my parents' he started talking about his head again.  Sigh.  He didn't get as bad as he was Friday night, but he continued to bring it up later that day and night.  He is not up yet today, so I am not sure what to expect.  We leave for vacation later this week, and I am really hoping this doesn't ruin his whole vacation.  Maybe getting away will get his mind off of it.  It breaks my heart to see him like this, because I know exactly how he feels.

Anyway, as far as this week goes I worked for an hour today and I am working for an hour tomorrow, and aside from that we will just be busy getting ready for vacation.  Yay!

Oh boy, Laura. What a weekend you had!

I really feel for Lucas. It sounds like his anxiety is just getting the best of him. :smileysad: Do you think the stress of driving triggered this worry about his head? How frustrating for him, you... all of you. I'm sure the incident with your car really stressed you all out as well.

I must say that I laughed out loud when I read about what Alex was saying about your hair!! I cut my hair off a few months ago and into a totally different style and my boys reacted so funny! Jacob told me I looked "weird" and Cooper asked if I could "please not wear your hair like that. I don't even recognize you!" Made me chuckle! How did you get your hair cut?

I definitely think the stress of driving triggered the anxiety.  He is much better than he had been, and hasn't mentioned his head at all today, but he still seems kind of distracted to me at times so I have a feeling it is still on his mind.  Hopefully vacation will get his mind off of it and give us all a chance to relax.

As far as my haircut goes, it's kind of a choppy, chin-length bob.  Dh and Lucas liked it.  It's so funny how your boys reacted to your haircut.  How did you get yours done?

Our weekend was mostly relaxing after a few busy days last week with the ILs. (BIL had come for about a week with his family, and we spent last Tuesday at the ILs' lake house, then stayed over on Thursday and got home Friday evening.)

We found most of Tim's school supplies for kindergarten on Saturday, visited one of my sisters on Sunday and just relaxed on Monday (provincial holiday).

On the agenda this week: cleaning house, mowing the lawn and hopefully finding the rest of the school supplies. (Will go back to Wal-Mart, check out sales at a similar store that's closing, and finally go to the office supply store or see if Staples.ca has what we need.)

I should also get out the info given at kindergarten orientation at the start of June, go over everything. I think we need to practice scissor use and writing his name. And we'll want to start timing how long he takes for lunch so he can be quick and have more time outside on lunch break! Later in the month, we'll start getting up and walking to the school to get our morning routine determined.

I hope the vacation really helps, too.

My hair is also a chin-length bob. It's slightly shorter in the back than it is in the front. I even got highlights this last time in an effort to hide some of the grey. No such luck! Here we are 6 weeks later and I can totally see them. :/ I like the cut though!

Hi Becca!

Wow, you've been busy! Isn't it hard to believe that it is time to think about back to school already? When does class start? Will your little guy be in all day kindy or just half day?

Awww, how exciting that Tim is starting kindergarten!  It seems like my boys started only yesterday and now they're in high school.  Is Tim excited about it?

I started doing a semi-permanent dye a few months ago to cover the grays.  It's not 100%, but it definitely helps.  Mine will probably be back in about 6 weeks also.  Sigh.

It is so depressing how quickly the gray shows. My mom is totally white so I know what my future holds. I've been coloring my hair for at least 10 years but I've noticed it is getting worse and worse in the last year or so. Blah.
